The 3 Best Oahu Helicopter Tours to Book on Your Next Hawaii Vacation

Ryan, Senior Traveler, US

22 August 2017

If you’ve heard the rumor, it is true indeed. Oahu is a thrilling piece of Earth. It hosts Honolulu, too—the capital city of Hawaii. Many Hawaiians reside here, a land decorated in the most exotic attractions you’ll probably ever encounter.

In other words, you can whip up a storm of fun in Oahu.

While a quiet vacation might be all some people are willing to try, Oahu offers the rare opportunity to get your adrenaline pumping while capturing lasting memories from high above at the same time.

Oahu helicopter tours offer an incomparable aerial sweep of the island’s lush surroundings and picturesque views of nature and modern creations.

Oahu Attractions to Visit

The lively island has a bagful of tour destinations to fly over at close range.

  • There’s Hanauma Bay, which is the largest collection of indoor water in the island. If you love snorkeling, Hanauma Bay is the place to be too.
  • Waikiki Beach has beautiful scenery. The water is crystal-clear and there’s lots of activity down there…especially enjoyable from your helicopter seat up above.
  • And there’s Diamond Heads. This is a stunning formation that encapsulates a volcanic and military history up to its sleeves.
  • Also, to the south of Waikiki Beach is the legendary Pearl Harbor—the shrine of the 1946 attack

The best way to experience all this is to hop into a Hawaiian heli-tour and experience a crazy good ride.

With plenty of tours to choose from, we’ve narrowed it down to the top 4 based on price, reputation, experience, and the sights you’ll see.  Below are the fo[one_third]ur that made the list:

Tour 1: Blue Skies of Oahu Helicopter Tour

The best helicopter tour company should magnify your tour feel.

The Blue Skies of Oahu team manages to engineer an out-of-ordinary experience. It is clear that has a lot to do with their industry-leading professionalism, genuine care, and meticulous safety precautions.

For example, the weather is checked almost on a minute to minute basis, and no flights are allowed if your safety is not guaranteed.

The pilots play dual roles and serve as your tour guides (and excellent ones too. They are State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guides), and you get to fly through 45 minutes of pure bliss on this once in a lifetime opportunity.

All you need to do is get to Honolulu, where the tours commence either in the morning or in the afternoon. You can check with their online correspondents to verify the array of attractions to fly over, slate a reservation, get exclusive limited deals, and check when your flight is due.

Where to Flyover

Places you can expect to fly over, stop over, hover over, and snap photos include the scenic Waikiki and Kaneohe Bay coral reefs (so turquoise and glowing), the crescent moon formation of the Hanauma Bay, storied Diamond Head extinct volcano, and historic Battleship Missouri (ahead of Pearl Harbor).

From our wholesome experience, it’s clear the company seems to take a lot of pride in one-on-one customer care, and nothing gives a more positive vibe than a business that cares more about you than its bottom line—that’s giving value.

You get to ask any questions, fly up close to some interesting sites, and enjoy a laugh and clear two-way communication. The pilots make you feel like a VIP and make the experience very fun and relaxing, eliminating any fears you might have had.

All these make the trip comforting and go a long way in making the helicopter tour feel authentic and not rushed.

The good thing is you can receive the experience as a souvenir. Towards this end, The Blue Hawaiian Company has a stunning video production arm that shoots and records every aerial experience in HD (and optimizes for Blu-Ray) that you can request a copy of at the landing base.

Be sure to get yours at the Honolulu base; take it home and share with friends and relatives (and make some jealous).

Some takeaways from the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tours include:

  • Spectacular aerial views of the sites mentioned above
  • 45-minute tour available in the mornings and afternoons
  • Digital Blu-Ray compatible DVD in-flight recording for souvenir purposes
  • State-of-the-art helicopters ensuring safety, excellent views around, and reduced noise
  • Discounted rates by booking online versus in-person, which come with priority scheduling for you

Keep in mind that there’s a 5-day advance online bookings requirement. Also, at booking, you need to commit to a maximum of 3 and minimum of 2 people per flight reservation. But we doubt that’ll be a problem—after-all, who wants to experience such a phenomenal adventure alone? It’s good for you—and your memoir.

Also important to note is with regard to their canceling notice—canceling within 24 hours comes with a 50% charge on the full amount.

The explanation is that adding in a subsequent tour on such short notice is extremely difficult, and coming in late would interfere with other guests’ flights.  Just something good to be aware of in case you need to cancel so close to the flight time.

Here’s a handful of essential, additional information to keep in mind:

  • Find Blue Hawaiian Helicopter Tours at their HQ, Kaulele Place in Honolulu
  • They use Eco-Star helicopters. These come with lots of indoor space and quiet technology (including Bose noise-cancelling headphones and two-way communication), and lots of panes to offer more visibility
  • If you need to cancel the tour, you’ll have to give the company a 24-hour notice prior to the scheduled take off time to receive a full refund

Tour 2:  Magnum PI Doors Off Helicopter Tour

What’s your fantasy?

Is it taking a private flight over a pristine destination and truly experiencing the spectacular views? Want to have the wind blow your hair while you take in an array of unobstructed scenes?

The sites you’ll view are pretty similar to the ones offered by Blue Helicopter Tours. The main difference is Makani Kai offers a doors-off tour.

Where to Flyover?

Still, their Waikiki Spectacular Tour package is worth every second. It’s a 30-minute tour that takes off from Ko Olina. The ride heads out over East Oahu, flying over downtown Honolulu, over Ko Olina Marina and directly towards Pearl Harbor.

Then the helicopter charges towards Honolulu Harbor and over the scenic Waikiki Beach. Flying right ahead, you’ll pass over the National Memorial Service, above the breathtaking Lulumahu Falls, and right on top of the green Nuuanu Pali. The flight then turns west and back towards the landing base in Ko Olina.

A doors-off ride treats your senses to a true spectacle; you get to feel the smells, temperature changes, aromatic wind and a fair share of rainbows (and double rainbows).

Also, with the helicopter’s doors wide open, you can click and flash away from your camera freely to record the special moments. No obstructions behind the plexiglass of the helicopter doors. It is a perfect way to spend vacation time with 2-3 of your family, friends or tour mates.

Serious photographers will also love the chance to capture the serene beauty from above without any obtrusions. If you have your own GoPro outdoor camera handy, you will not want to leave it behind.

Recall that grand heli-moment in the Magnum P.I. Show? Well, that is the exact same aircraft you get to fly in around the Central Pacific Island.

Some tour highlights include:

  • Choose your desired flight hours and seat reservation in advance. You can order your ticket online
  • Options to choose between a 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute Waikiki Spectacular Tour—a trailblazing wind-in-the-hair experience
  • One-on-one customer care, a priceless thing to have when you need any type of help
  • Safe and sound aircraft with experienced crew and flight team
  • Option for First Class Seating (uber private) and open (fun and social) seating

One thing to note is that the doors off experience isn’t ideal for those who get air sickness easily.  If you have a strong fear of heights, or get queasy easily, it’s probably better to go with a doors on helicopter tour.

Here are some handy details to jot in mind:

  • Their aircraft and operations are certified by the International Standards for Business Aircraft Operations to ensure your safety
  • They are also certified by the Federal Aviation Association for maintenance excellence
  • The company uses the Eurocopter AS350 aircraft. The class is specially manufactured to provide excellent touring features. Those include a spacious cabin (that’s air conditioned), and panoramic visibility (extra windows on the doors for maximum visibility).
  • Comes with quality Bose noise-canceling headphones and clear two-way communication

If for any reason you decide to cancel your reserved tour, you’ll need to inform Makani Kai Helicopters 72 hours prior to the flight. Otherwise, your canceled reservation will still checkout, and you’ll be charged in full (unless weather is an issue).

Tour 3: Waikiki and South Shore Blast Helicopter Tours

This helicopter tour company lets you choose what you want—either a private flight with doors wide open or a private aerial tour with doors closed. The doors-open flight is perfect for photographers and anyone who’d want to capture unobstructed views of the extensive, breathtaking scenes around Oahu—especially the enchanting North Shore.

Alternatively, the flight with the doors-closed option is excellent for small family tours (up to a maximum of 3), a quiet and intimate honeymoon ride, as well as for anyone who may be afraid of heights that wants a mid-air take on Oahu.

Both flight options take the same routes, though. You get to fly over the fabled Waikiki shoreline—all the way to Diamond Head crater. The South Shore tour encompasses flying over the beautiful Koko Head and famous, century-old Makapu Lighthouse. The North Shore ride explores the scope of Kailua Beach (the surfers’ paradise), lush Ka ‘a’ awa Valley and spectacular Kaneohe Bay.

Here’s a more in-depth look at both tour options:

  1. A 30-minute Waikiki aerial adventure

This is a short ride for the visitors among us who may not like to be in the air for extended periods but still are daring enough to give it a go. The tour adds additional exploration of the South Shore as well.

That means you get to fly over the USS Arizona Memorial (Pearl Harbor) and legendary sites such as Hanauma Bay (the volcanic-formed tuff ring), and ultra-cherished Koko Head formations. You can take a maximum of 3 flight-mates and a minimum of 2.

It is a private tour, so if you are wondering what perfect way to show love to your significant other on a special date, the Mauna Loa experience will take their breath away and make you a beacon of what great memories should be and feel like.

  1. All-inclusive Oahu tour

This one doubles the air time to 60 minutes. It extends the exploration route to cover both the North and South Shores.

The hour-long ride affords you plenty of time to marvel at the immaculate views of some of Oahu’s most magnificent views and brilliant natural landmarks. These include the Sacred Falls, totaling over 1,100 feet if picturesque waterfalls

There’s also the Kaneohe Bay, an attractive beach full of life, and the beautiful Kaawa Valley to behold for a lifetime.

You get to:

  • Take in a large chunk of the entire Oahu island in one unforgettable ride—perfect for a once-in-a-lifetime getaway
  • It is an exclusive, private affair and is served ready with doors open or shut
  • Requires booking for two at the minimum, so it’s excellent for couples (combined with the private aura)
  • Friends can ride together too—up to a maximum of 3

To Sum Up

Little else beats a helicopter ride. Taking in the most fantastic, panoramic views of Oahu is truly breathtaking. If you’ve wanted to crush that comfort zone and roll out enviable moments from a floating seat in the sky, these 3 Oahu helicopter tours are your best bet to go out and do just that.

1.     Routes and Cruise Overview

Star Sunset Dinner Cruise and Show Oahu Dinner Cruise Overview

If you are not a big boat fan, you might still relish the Star of Honolulu, the charming cruise ship you’ll head out to sea on for the dinner and show on this cruise. It is a magnificent 232-foot, 1500-passenger floating island—the largest cruising the Island waters.

When you finally board the Star of Honolulu, you’ll be spoiled with a 2-hour and 30 minute cruise. The Star Sunset Dinner Cruise elopes beyond Diamond Head to the scenic Kahala Gold Coast. It sticks around for longer on Fridays (read on for more on that).

If it’s your first time sailing out to sea, you’ll have confidence in knowing the ship has three types of stabilizers and is A.D.A certified to operate on the route.

That means no matter what weather conditions you come across, you can rest assured of you and your loved one’s safety.  Make sure to bring a light jacket though because those nights can get a bit chilly!

But when the skies are clear and the sun is dancing, the Star of Honolulu has 4 voluminous decks to help you indulge in sunbathing and the best views possible. All decks are flanked by a number of bars and 6 delightful dining rooms.

There are private lounges on deck, too. So expect a relaxing time, where you can pamper and cuddle, make memories, and shun all worries for the moment.

And if you’d like to take some amazing photos, Just take one of the 2 elevators to their 60-foot deck up front. It offers the best spot to bathe in refreshing sun rays as you unwind, coupled with the best panoramic views of the sparkling sea.

Want to get picked up?  If you’re at the Waikiki hotel, they can do that too if you notify them at least 24 hours in advance. They have a pick-up schedule that covers 15 pick-up spots by bus (be sure to check with them to locate the exact place they can pick you up).

“An Oahu dinner cruise is the perfect way to experience the beauty of Oahu combined with a night of entertainment”

Island Style Buffet Cruise Route and Overview

If you are looking for more than a sea ride, then choose the Island Style Buffet Cruise for a couple of reasons.

Their vessel, Majestic, is smaller than the Star of Honolulu but offers spectacular views from the indoor dining and entertainment areas. So, if you prefer an indoor experience—indulging in live entertainment, delicious food, and exotic wines—or are celebrating a fête in your life, the Majestic is a great place to do it.

It has three decks, and all of them come with drink and chit chat spots, making it an ideal Oahu tour for smaller groups or couples.

Once you board the Majestic, you’ll get settled and set sail for the evening at 5:30pm. And for the next two hours, you’ll grace the Waikiki coastline, taking in the scenic palm botanicals and winding your way across the enduring presence of the Diamond Head.

It feels magical. It is truly special if you can share the experience with someone else—a friend or a spouse. The glorious sunsets and picturesque views of Waikiki and Honolulu’s skyline, especially at dusk, make for a good time to be at sea.

Honolulu City Lights Sunset Dinner Cruise

When you need to feel the wind in your hair, the sun on your skin and your gaze on the azure Pacific water, you might want to consider the Sunset Dinner Cruise. It kicks off at 5:30 pm and goes until 8 pm.

But before that, the company offers complimentary transportation from select hotels in Waikiki (check beforehand to see if your hotel is included).

With this cruise, you get volumes of open space to enjoy the Hawaiian sun, gorgeous views of Waikiki’s coastline, Honolulu’s skyline and lights, as well as the stunning Oahu sunset. The sun sets at about 7:30 pm around mid-year, so make sure to get a comfortable seat or soak it in on the trampoline nets out back.

Alternatively, you can roam around the Makani Catamaran’s deck.  From there you’ll be able to take in the expansive scenery of Koko Head, Diamond Head and Koko Crater.  As with the other cruises, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap some picturesque photos, so don’t forget your camera.

Overall, the Honolulu City Lights Sunset Dinner Cruise is a life-long souvenir that you’ll definitely want to be a part of.

2. Entertainment

All three cruises offer lively activity and room to enjoy your friends’ company. But there’s also private lounges if you prefer a more private experience with a loved one, close friends, business partners or colleagues.

Another feature that all three Oahu dinner cruises offer is a special Friday night sunset plus Fireworks tour. It is a Friday-night-only festivity. The fireworks light the sky courtesy of Waikiki’s Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Whatever occasion you’d like to celebrate, all three allow revelers to kick up a little party. Thinking birthday parties, weddings, promotion celebration, or what have you, they allow it.

To mix it all in, all dinner cruises offer a full bar selection of drinks. You can get yours from any of the bars lined up on the decks.

Thanks to its spectacular size, the Star of Honolulu cruise ship obviously tops out as the Oahu dinner cruise with the most bang for anyone wanting to enjoy a wide range of cruising delights. Their Friday fireworks and sunset dinner cruises extend an extra hour, plus you can catch all the firework action from the deck for an extra $10.

The Star Sunset Dinner Cruise has a classic show currently showing. They call it 60 Years of Aloha. Essentially, it is a story about a young couple who continue to embark on their long (and seemingly illustrious) journey together through the deep blue Pacific.

It is a colorful spectacle, the largest and most elaborate of the three cruises reviewed. Along with that, they also have a fun welcome ceremony they call the Welcome Hula on the pier-side of the ship.

The Island Style Buffet Cruise and Honolulu City Lights Sunset Dinner Cruise also have a variety of live shows, entertaining audience participation, live Hawaiian music, and a number of other live shows that go on until sundown. Check out their cruise cards to find out what they have lined up for you. Or, maybe you’ll let them surprise you!

Also, since all three cruise options operate around the same route, all of them offer Turtle sightings and a chance to cruise alongside dolphins. It is fantastic to see wildlife like this, especially if it’s your first time and don’t get the chance to see these beautiful creatures in the wild that often, if ever.

But, if you’re lucky and go during the right time, you’ll have the opportunity to see herds of Humpback whales. They swim into the warm waters of Hawaii from chilly Alaska to breed and calve. This is a seasonal festivity, but you can arrange to catch it between mid-December to around mid-April.

3. Food and Beverages Available on the Oahu Dinner Cruises

It is not a dinner cruise without the food now is it? Rest assured there is a lot going on for foodies and everyone who loves a good drink or two.

You’ll encounter a rich mixture of island cuisine (delicious and nutritious seafood and Hawaiian drinks) on all the cruises. That includes hot and cold selections as well as both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from.

Interestingly, though, they also allow you to come with your own drink and some foods on the Makani Catamaran (Honolulu City Lights Sunset Dinner Cruise), provided you clean up after yourself. This is a little known fact since they don’t publicly advertise it.  However, the Makani Catamaran menu has a number of gluten-free and vegetarian plates aboard, too.

If you’re looking for a truly delicious meal, we must say the Island Style Buffet Cruise’s menu is by far the richest and yummiest of the trio—with options like Garlic Shiitake Teriyaki Chicken, the Pacific Catch of the Day, and a unique Chef’s Selection for dessert, this buffet just can’t be beat.  On top of that, they also include one complimentary drink.

But, if you love yourself some crispy crabs and juicy beef, the Star Sunset Dinner Cruise and Show has a whole serving of those. They’ve christened it the “all-you-can-eat-crab and tenderloin of beef” dinner.

We do advise that you find yourself a good seat that is not too far off from the main dining areas though. If you sit too far you might find that food takes a little too long to get to you, and by the time it does you might be forced to hurry up to get even a bite of your “all-you-can-eat” before closing.

The great thing about all three is that there is so much to choose from with each Oahu dinner operator, and you’ll find you need a couple minutes just to decide on what you want to have.

One thing is for sure though, the Mai Tai is one popular drink around these shores, so expect it on all three dinner cruises.

About their Cancellation Policies

Looking at the three cruises, they all have similar cancellation requirements that they’ll let you know up front. If for any reason they cancel your cruise, they expressly state that they can (and will) refund your money 100%.

But, if you have to cancel your trip, you have to alert them 24 hours prior to the time you are required to check-in. If cancellations are made within this time or in the case of no shows, they keep the full amount. No partial refunds for you.

Bottom Line

These are the top Oahu dinner cruises for good reason, and all have unique traits that makes them special. They all offer a sunset dining experience with lots of food and drinks to choose from. The entertainment offerings are on point and the crew members friendly (and they know how to get the party started!).

But, they also offer slightly different packages in-between, so you’ll need to consider what works best for your distinct taste and cruising needs. That is the surefire way to enjoy the best Oahu dining cruise experience around.

From passionate city-lovers to adventurous adrenaline seekers and everyone in between, Oahu has something for all tastes.

Owing to the fact it’s the most densely populated and most developed island, many people opt for Oahu when planning their first time visit to Hawaii.

The city, with its easily-navigable public transport system, world class dining and huge range of accommodation is an attractive place for those looking to enjoy the comforts of a metropolitan hub whilst being a stone’s throw away from beautiful untouched beaches and spectacular mountainous jungles.

This also means that there’s a vast range of tours to choose from and if you’re a first-timer with a limited number of days on your hands – it can be a tricky task to decide what to see and do!

That’s why we’ve pulled together some of the best options for tours in Oahu that’ll have everyone from hikers to fine diners coming back for more.

Feeling adventurous?  Rated as one of the best Oahu helicopter tours, there’s nothing quite like the rush of the wind in your hair as you’re gliding over endless lush tropical jungle, soaring past waterfalls and descending into mountainous valleys with the Magnum PI Doors-Off Helicopter Tour.

Helicopter tours on Oahu are wildly popular among photographers, thrill seekers and families alike and the Magnum PI Tour is a 50 minute thrill-ride with an emphasis on the “thrill”. Flying in the very same helicopter seen in the Magnum PI show, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of some of the island’s most breathtaking landmarks including Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay and the famed Jurassic Park Valley.

If you’re a keen photographer then get your camera ready because the doors-off tour means your shots will be unobstructed by the plexiglass found on the doors of other helicopters. To find out more and to book your seat on the Magnum PI Doors-Off Helicopter Tour, click here.

4. Chief’s Luau Oahu

It wouldn’t be a trip to Oahu without an Oahu luau. One of the most popular forms of entertainment across all the islands, Oahu is no stranger to the unforgettable blend of Polynesian culture, food and performance that is celebrated so fondly in Hawaii.

Produced by the original world champion fire-knife dancer himself, Chief Sielu Avea’s luau is famous for being the highest rated luau in all of Oahu and for good reason. Circled by cliffs at the water’s edge and away from the lights of the city, Chief’s Luau will transport you to an old Hawaii, surrounded by nature and magic.

With a mouth-watering buffet available, including the succulent roast pig, food lovers will not be disappointed. Accompanied by world-class performances directly descended from various Polynesian cultures, this is a luau for the history books. For more information on reservation options and to book your spot, head on over here.

5. Polynesian Cultural Center Oahu

Something that keeps bringing people back to Hawaii is the humbling beauty of its traditional culture and practices. Oahu is known for having some of the richest cultural experiences of all the islands and the best way to enjoy these is without a doubt the Polynesian Cultural Center.

Boasting a stunning array of activities for unbeatable prices, the PCC tours offer you an immersive cultural experience in 6 different island villages where locals welcome you and craft arts before your eyes. For the history lovers among you, there are also sightseeing tours of some of the most popular historical and cultural sites like the Pali Lookout and the Dole plantation.

If this weren’t enough, your day will be topped off by the famous Alii Luau and the unforgettable “Ha: Breath of Life” Show. To see the different package options and to book your day, check it out here.

6. Star Sunset Dinner & Show

If world-class entertainment and food wasn’t enough on the beautiful beaches of Oahu, then why not take to the waters with the Star Sunset Dinner & Show. A remarkable Oahu dinner cruise all around, The Star of Honolulu is the largest, award-winning passenger tour vessel in Hawaiian waters.

The stunning cruiser has 6 dining rooms, private lounges, bars and a 60ft high observation deck for you to enjoy the spectacular Hawaiian sunset from. As a passenger, you’ll be treated to a welcome hula on the pier, followed by an all-you-can-eat crab and tenderloin beef dinner accompanied by a powerful performance from the largest entertainment cast on island waters.

These types of cruises are truly experiences like no other, enjoyed by families and friends alike who keep coming back for the sheer quality of the service and entertainment. To discover the full range of offers when it comes to this cruise, as well as read reviews, head over to this link.

7. Jurassic Valley Zipline Tour

One for the adrenaline junkies and nature lovers, the Jurassic Valley Zipline Tour is one of many tours that combine the breathtaking mountain and jungle landscapes found in Oahu with the excitement of speeding over them at thrilling heights!

Known famously for being the location where much of the Jurassic World movie was shot, prepare to be flung (perfectly safely!) through lush, seemingly prehistoric jungle as well as learn about the Hawaiian traditions of the Ka’a’awa Valley and its native flora and fauna. This is one of many zipline Oahu tours on the island, but our choice as the best.  To get your adventure on, you can schedule your tour here.

9. Hawaiian History and Culture Tour

Probably the most in-depth tour to be found on Oahu when it comes to the rich history of not only this island, but many of the others, the Hawaiian History and Culture Tour takes place within Honolulu city itself.

This makes it absolutely perfect for history lovers who will be treated to detailed accounts of how the islands came to be and how their people came to exist. One of the most tempting attractions of the tour is that it can be customized to preference, including stops at The Honolulu Art Museum or the Hawaii State Museum of Natural and Cultural History depending on your interest.

Zipline in Oahu – Best Tours Reviewed

TRAVEL & LIFESTYLE

Experience Beauty and Adventure with a Zipline Oahu Tour

Nick A, Senior Travelers, US

20 July 2017

Do you ever wonder what it feels like to be a bird flying through the air?

Now you can experience that feeling when you zipline in Oahu!

If you are visiting Oahu, a zipline tour is one of the most exciting ways to get the most out of your visit.

Why a zipline tour is a must on your trip to Oahu

When you see the forests of Oahu, you will know that keeping your feet on the ground won’t be enough. You’ll have the desire to see them from an entirely new perspective.

On a zipline tour, you can see the many different layers of the jungle from the ground all the way up to the canopy.

Ziplines are a complete sensory experience, and Oahu offers sites unlike anywhere else in the world.  On a zipline, you will not only see the extraordinary natural sights that Oahu has to offer, but you’ll be able to hear, feel, taste, and smell it as well.

You will be able to scan the treetops for exotic wildlife and scour the forest floor for native flora. You can also gaze over some amazing vistas to see the beautiful landscape in all its glory.

Listen to the sound of the leaves playing in the wind. You just might hear the sounds of some wildlife in the forest!

Experience the humid air rush against your face as you sail through the sky.

Savor the slightly salty island air as it blows inland from the ocean.

Drink in the intoxicating scent of the natural rainforest.

There is no way to see the jungles and mountains of Oahu like on a zipline. It is a completely unfiltered experience unlike any other.  In Oahu, there are two tours that stand out from the rest as the best on the island.  Below we’ll break down what they offer and why you should book one today.

Tour #1: CLIMB Works Keana Farm North Shore Tour

Located on the Keana Farm, with this zipline tour you’ll soar above fields and explore the active agricultural site from a bird’s eye view.  On top of that, you’ll see some stunning panoramic views of both the ocean and the mountains of Oahu’s North shore.

During the trip, the guides will teach you about the history of Oahu at each stop as you gaze out over the picture-perfect mountains and ocean scenery.  Your tour guide will take you through three distinct periods of Hawaii’s history: Historic Hawaii, the Plantation Era, and Hawaii Today.

You’ll be able to see the grow sites for papaya, eggplant, taro, and basil, and sample some of the mouth-watering apples, bananas, and cherry tomatoes that the farm produces.

After the tour, you can continue your experience and try out some fresh produce.  With the exception of basil, Keana Farms only sells their produce locally!

Keana Farms is also a thrill seeker’s paradise, so you can get your adrenaline pumping as you soar across the lush landscape!  This tour has the highest and longest ziplines of the three that we review. The 8 ziplines can be 150ft above the ground and cover 500 to 2600 feet in distance! With three sky bridges and some heart-dropping rappelling, this tour will satisfy your inner daredevil, making it a perennial favorite for tours in Oahu.

If you are a fan of adventure or agriculture, this is the tour for you. At 3 hours long and $169 per person, it’s well worth the investment. For that price you get amazing views, a heart-pumping tour, fresh fruit, and beautiful scenery.

What more could you want?

One thing to note about with this trip is that it can get a little hot on the midday tours, as one reviewer noted:

Calling all movie and history fans!

If you loved Jurassic Park and wish you could experience the stunning scenery of the movie up close, look no further than the Kualoa Ranch Jurassic Valley tour!

The Kualoa Ranch is a 4000 acre private nature reserve with a fascinating history. It is owned by the family of Dr. Gerrit P. Judd, the first American doctor to translate medical texts into the Hawaiian language. The family has owned the entire property since 1880, except for a brief period during World War II when the land was occupied by the U.S. military as the location of the Kualoa Airfield.

Today, the Kualoa Ranch is a popular tourist and filming destination. It has been the filming location for over 50 movies and TV shows, including Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, 50 First Dates, Godzilla, Lost, and Hawaii Five-0.

On the Jurassic Valley zipline tour, you will spend 2.5 hours gliding past the famous scenery while 100 feet above the ground. As you float over natural streams and native flora and fauna, you’ll see why so many major films have been set here: it is a spectacularly beautiful place!

Each of the 7 ziplines is named after a historically significant aspect of the Ka’a’awa Valley, a sacred site for ancient Hawaiians.  You’ll learn all about the deep connections between the Judd family and the native communities.

The Jurassic Valley zipline is iconic in more ways than one. It was named the Readers’ Choice Award for Best Zipline in Oahu of 2017 by the Honolulu Star Advertiser!

The Kualoa Zipline tour is a great option for large families where not everyone might want to go on the zipline adventure. The Ranch boasts a wide variety of activities to do, including ATVs, horseback riding tours, and truck tours of the jungle, so everyone can find something to do while you’re swinging through the trees!

At $159.99 per person, this is an amazing opportunity for film lovers, history buffs, and families! The minimum age is 7 years old, so even the younger kids can come along for the ride!
